Appliance Repair at Your Door, from Arlington to Ashburn

When the refrigerator stops holding temperature or the washer quits halfway through a load, a technician comes to your house, townhouse or condo, tests the appliance where it's installed, and tells you what failed and what fixing it costs. The repair starts only after you say yes.

  • Refrigerators, laundry, dishwashers, ranges
  • Houses, townhouses, condos and rentals
  • Gas or electric, most major brands
  • No work until you approve the price

Local conditions

How Homes and Weather Here Affect Appliances

Laundry on an upper floor

Townhouses and condos often put the washer in an upstairs closet or a stacked pair, so a slow leak shows up as a stain on the ceiling below.

Building rules

Managed condo and apartment buildings may want an elevator booking, contractor paperwork or set work hours. Ask the office, then tell us.

Long, humid summers

Damp air makes a dryer work harder and leaves door gaskets sweating. A refrigerator in a hot garage may run nearly nonstop by August.

Thunderstorms and ice

Summer storms and winter ice both take the power down. Afterward, a tripped GFCI or a control board that needs a reset is a common call.

Our process

From First Call to Finished Repair

Five steps, in the same order on every job. The About page explains scheduling and diagnosis in more depth.

  1. 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or send the form with the appliance, the brand and what it's doing. A photo of the model label lets us look up parts ahead of time.

  2. 2

    Tested where it's installed

The technician checks the machine and what feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until one failed part is confirmed.

  3. 3

    The fault, explained

You hear what broke and why, in plain words, and you're welcome to see the part.

  4. 4

    A price you approve

One quote for that repair. You can go ahead, ask questions or decline. Nothing is replaced until you agree.

  5. 5

    Repaired and run

Once the new part is fitted, the appliance runs through a cycle while we're still there. If a part has to be ordered, we set the return visit before leaving.

Why choose us

Straight Advice, Even When It's “Buy a New One”

Most breakdowns trace back to one part that wore out, and swapping it is money well spent. Some don't. A twenty-year-old refrigerator with a failing compressor, a washer whose control board is no longer made, a repair priced close to a replacement: in those cases the technician says so at the diagnosis instead of selling you the fix.

You get the same information either way (the failed part, the work involved, the price) and the choice stays yours. Built-in and high-end appliances usually earn a repair; an inexpensive machine near the end of its life often doesn't. Our guide to deciding between repair and replacement walks through how to weigh it.

Diagnosed at your home

The appliance is tested where it stands, along with the outlet, water line, drain or vent it depends on.

Price approved before work

You see the cost of the described repair first. Should a second problem turn up, we stop and ask again.

Parts matched to the model number

Manufacturer parts where they're available. If a part is an equivalent, you hear that before it goes in.

Independent of every brand

No manufacturer authorizes or directs our work, which is why a machine still under its maker's warranty should go to the maker first.

These logos identify equipment we work on and imply no relationship with the companies behind them. We are an independent repair service, not an authorized service center, so an appliance still covered by its manufacturer's warranty belongs with that manufacturer first.

FAQ

Questions People Ask Before Booking

Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.

Still have a question?

Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.

Check the ZIP code. We keep to a deliberately small patch of Northern Virginia: 7 areas (Fairfax & Vienna, Falls Church, Springfield, Reston, Arlington, Alexandria, Ashburn) covering 13 ZIP codes. If your ZIP is on the list, we come to you. If it isn't, we'd rather say so up front than book a visit we can't keep.

Look up your ZIP code →

Mailing names here don't follow city lines. The 22042 and 22043 ZIPs read “Falls Church” but sit in Fairfax County, outside the independent City of Falls Church. 22030 mixes the City of Fairfax with county land around it. For booking, the ZIP code settles it, not the town printed on the envelope.

That depends on the week and on which part of the area you're in, so we don't promise same-day or emergency visits. When you call or book, you're offered an actual appointment time. Mention it if water is leaking or a freezer full of food is warming, because that changes how we plan the day.

Stop running it and close the hot and cold valves behind the machine. If the drain pan or floor is wet, towel it up and leave the machine unplugged. Then book a visit. The usual suspects are a split fill hose, a loose drain hose at the standpipe, a pump seal or a door boot on a front-loader, and the technician will find which before quoting.

Send us whatever the management office gives you: work hours, whether the freight elevator or loading dock has to be reserved, and any paperwork they ask a contractor for. We'll confirm what we can supply and pick a time that fits the building's window before the visit goes on the calendar.

An adult should let the technician in and be reachable until the job is done, because nothing is repaired until the price is approved. If you can't be there, a family member, a tenant or a property manager can open the door while you approve the quote by phone.

Both. A range is an oven and a cooktop in one unit, and plenty of people call it a stove. We repair gas and electric models, freestanding or slide-in, as well as separate cooktops and wall ovens. If you ever smell gas, get everyone out and phone your gas utility or 911 once you're outdoors.

Range and stove faults →

An over-the-range or built-in microwave often is, since replacing it means matching a cutout or a vent hookup. A basic countertop model usually isn't, and we'll tell you that rather than sell you a repair. Please don't open one yourself: the high-voltage capacitor inside can hold a dangerous charge after it's unplugged.

Tell Us What It's Doing and We'll Set a Time

Call or book online. A short description of the problem and the brand is all it takes. If you can, add the model number from the rating label and anything the technician should know about getting in: a gate code, a garage level, visitor parking or a concierge desk.
